Are you getting enough?
Food is the best way to take in the nutrients we need. If you pay attention to your diet, vary the foods you eat, study food labels to glean the nutritional content, then you may not need to worry about suffering any vitamin and mineral deficiencies. However the truth is that most of us have not got the time to be that vigilant.
With hectic modern lifestyles, few of us have the time or knowledge to become our own food scientists. So we are likely to rely on broad advice like eat five portions of fruit and veg a day. Yet the latest national diet and nutrition survey found that only about a third of the population manages to follow that guidance. In addition, the survey found that intake of oily fish, which is our main source of beneficial omega 3 fatty acids, remains low. That means that most of us could benefit from a little nutritional help, that could protect our long term health from disease and illness like high cholesterol, and cancer.
