How to keep well
Omega 3 fish oil is another favorite supplement. I will take 2000mg of this, which is 600mg of active EPA/DHA. Omega 3 supports a healthy heart and brain function. It is said that fish oil can improve your mood. Next I take 1000mg of fresh odourless garlic this helps to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and again supports heart health. It also helps to control blood pressure It may also protect the immune system. I regard Vitamin B3, (Niacin) as important. I take 100mg per day, and this helps to control my cholesterol levels. It also releases energy from food.
Finally I will take 75mg of a coated asprin, helping to thin my blood, and it is said to protect against bowel cancer

How to improve your health naturally
Bathing is as essential as anything we do as humans, yet baths frequently get overlooked in any list of healing habits. When prepared for and taken properly, a bath can relieve your toxic load -- as well as mental and emotional stress -- easily and at very little expense. The bath is your missing tool to better health.
As a longtime practitioner in the field of wellness and longevity medicine, I've found that empowering people to take conscious care of their physical bodies helps to ensure that their health care program succeeds. Yet there is one area, as essential as anything we do as humans, which frequently gets overlooked in any list of healing habits: bathing. I don't mean merely washing your face, underarms and private areas; but more specifically the act -- and the art -- of total cleansing, by soaking and renewing the skin in the bath.
I come to the wisdom of bathing culturally as well as medically. I am Korean by birth. In Asia, the bath has an ancient heritage as a purification rite that is both practical and remedial. Growing up in Korea, my first experiences of bathing were of going with my grandmother to the local communal bath house. She had no bathroom of her own, and wouldn't have thought that she needed one. I learned about bathing and hygienic skills from her at two years of age, with all the ritual attached to that journey: carrying my own bucket, towel and scrubbing cloths; the stages of cleansing; and the beautiful act of generations coming together, without vanity or inhibition, helping to take care of each other.
The key steps of traditional Korean bathing are easy to adopt, but they change the bath completely. The norm today, or at least the standard, in many Western countries, is to wash our bodies a lot -- and not in the bath at all, but in the shower. Past the age of childhood, taking a bath is typically seen in terms of indulgence more than hygiene. A bath is virtually a psychological act. It is about stealing time away from the daily rush, for the sake of relaxation, solitude, sensuality, retreat or luxury. Still, a really phenomenal amount of health benefit gets lost in the migration from bath to shower, and from the spirit of cleansing to the behavior of clean.
The medical truth is that bathing is one of the most systemically corrective things that you can do for your body. When prepared for and taken properly, a bath can reduce real toxic as well as mental and emotional stress. The warm water in which you submerge gently stimulates detoxification through the skin and other organs of elimination (the kidneys, liver, colon and lungs) by inducing lymphatic flow, improving circulation, calming inflammation and encouraging sweating. Add scrubbing to the process as your dead skin layers naturally slough off in water, and you remove innumerable pollutants and metabolic waste products that have been collected there. Remember, the skin is the largest organ for detoxification and therefore a first line of defense for your body.
And we need to purify our skin more than ever in modern life. Toxins that are found in the skin include, but are not limited to: benzene, toluene, formaldehyde, styrene, deodorant, car exhaust, hydrocarbons, smog, household chemicals, perfumes, cosmetics, heavy metals including mercury, cadmium, aluminum, arsenic, lead, and nickel, dust mites, dust mite droppings, fungus, mold, bacteria, virus, parasites, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and hormones. It makes sense to rid the body of these elements as regularly as possible, in order to manage the toxic load we all carry to varying degrees.
Bathing has always helped our bodies do that, easily and at very little expense. In effect, a proactive bath once a week can replace certain types of doctor's treatments, spa visits or other more invasive detox modalities.
I'd like to share some basic principles to help you transform bathing into a healing resource. All you need at home is a bathtub, a scrubbing mitt or cloth, a bucket and gentle, organic soap. Another option would be to find a local Korean sauna/bath house to visit on a regular basis, where you can soak and be scrubbed by an expert in the traditional manner. I've visited wonderful Korean bath saunas in many cities, and many offer hot rooms and pools of different temperatures, to intensify the ritual of cleansing. Following custom, these are communal places where you will have to let go of modesty. Most offer different sessions for men and women. Check your local city guide for information, or, you can visit my website for a list of reputable, classical Korean bath saunas across the country that I personally have experienced and highly recommend.
One note of caution: Bathing in this way is a form of mild detoxification, which involves raising your body temperature and increasing your metabolic rate through the steps of skin purification. For any bath or detoxifying regimen, get your doctor's approval first if you have a physical condition or you are in a weak state. Contraindications may include, but are not limited to, diabetes, low or high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney or liver disease, adrenal exhaustion, recent illness, pregnancy, nervous system deficiencies and severe fatigue. Also, if you have just been out in the sun and gotten a burn or even a tan, scrubbing is not recommended.
1. Wash your body first. This is when to take that shower! It doesn't make sense to enter a clean bath with dirty feet and a sweaty body. The bath is not for washing, but for soaking in fresh pure water in order to open the systems of the body and exfoliate old layers of skin. Plus, in order to exfoliate properly in your bath, all oils and creams need to be completely removed from your skin first. Washing first can also reduce contamination and prevent possible bladder infections when in the bath. Not cleaning before bathing is a major omission in the Western concept of the bath.
As part of a general skin care regimen, I recommend that my patients use a probiotic soap for best cleansing. Like oral probiotics and cultured foods for your digestion such as Korean kimchi or yogurt, this type of soap is naturally anti-microbial and works on the skin in a similar way: The presence of good bacteria helps to diminish the ill effects of the bad. In his book, "Life on Man," bacteriologist Theodor Rosebury estimates that 50 million individual bacteria live on the average square centimeter (5x107/cm2) of human skin! Probiotic soap will optimize healthy skin flora and help remove harmful pathogens as well as dirt and sweat.
2. Make sure your bathtub has been cleaned with natural, nontoxic products. Draw your bath at a comfortably hot, but not scalding temperature. You want to feel very warm, to the point that you may be perspiring from your face, but not so hot that you want to get out of the tub to cool off. If you have a Jacuzzi tub with jets, you can use them for soothing muscles.
3. Stay in the bath for at least 20-30 minutes. You can stop here after your soak, and still derive beneficial, passive healing from the bath. Dry yourself vigorously with a clean towel to add a light amount of lymphatic stimulation.
Do not scrub after 8 or 9 p.m., as it may keep you awake. If you do choose to exfoliate, check your skin after about 15 minutes of soaking. Can you feel some debris sloughing off? If so, your skin will be ready soon to be scrubbed, to remove all the toxins which are embedded in the dead outer layers. Sweating also brings these toxins to the surface.
4. To begin exfoliating, finish your bath and jump back in the shower. Keep your body wet; the room should still be warm enough from your bath that you should not feel chilled or uncomfortable. If you do not have a separate shower, drain your bathtub and sit inside the tub to scrub there. It is best if you have a stool to sit on. You should have your small plastic pail or shallow bucket to fill with fresh hot water, a scrubbing mitt or cloth, and your mild or probiotic soap at hand.
5. Scrub each section of your body and then fill the bucket with hot water and splash it clean. However, do not scrub: all genital and rectal areas, eyelids and lips, or your whole face if you have sensitive skin. You can start from your feet and go up or from the arms and work down. Use linear strokes, back and forth: do not make circles. Practicing will show you how much pressure you need to use. Notice areas where you will always find dead skin, such as the back or inside of your forearms. Be aware that rinsing in the traditional way with a bucket is gentler on your skin and body than using a shower spray. Never use cold water before or during scrubbing. This will cause the skin to tighten so that it will not slough off, and may cause pain. You may be perspiring during the scrubbing process, or you might feel a bit of energy releasing. This is all normal. It just means your body is at an elevated metabolic state to aid in the detoxification process.
6. After one sweep over the entire body, you can go over any area again with a lighter touch to ensure you have removed all the dead skin. Your skin should feel baby soft, slightly pink with color, and vitalized. Wash your body one more time with soap, and rinse. Dry yourself well, and liberally apply a nourishing moisturizer to both body and face.
7. Lay down if you can for 15 minutes to relax and return to your regular temperature and heart rate. You will feel invigorated, clean, fresh and ready to go!
I often prescribe additional types of bath therapies for specific health conditions, using different medicinal salts, herbs and detoxifying agents. In future articles, I will discuss how to create bath programs for healthy and preventive skin care, chronic illness, injury, heavy metal toxicity and other ailments, as well as ways to assure that your bath water itself is pure and clean.
Happy bathing!

New natural cure for high blood pressure
The fact is though that the medical community does not have the corner on the market for medical knowledge. The treatments for high blood pressure are often unpleasant because of side effects and the like. That is why the natural cures for high blood pressure are gaining more and more popularity. With the natural world you have little to worry about when it comes to side effects.
Coleus is the newest weapon in the fight against high blood pressure. While this herb, sometimes known as Coleus Forskohlii, has been in use for other treatments over many years, it is just being discovered for its use as one of the home remedies for high blood pressure. Through the studies that have been conducted the use of coleus is very promising when looking to get those numbers under control.
Coleus works with the body itself to help it lower the blood pressure on its own. This is something that is rather unique. Using the defense system that is located within the cells themselves, coleus works to improve the circulation and therefore lower blood pressure.
To this day there are further studies being conducted. This means that more benefits may be found. It is suggested the coleus be taken on a daily basis to ensure that all of the benefits from this natural supplement work within the body.
This herb looks like a beautiful potted flower. There are many color variations of it but can mostly be found in a purple and white color. There are other health benefits associated with this herb. For example, in liquid form, a 1% solution of it can be used to reduce eye pressure for up to 5 hours. So if you suffer from glaucoma, you can find some comfort in using coleus.
It is also found that this herb stimulates the fat metabolism. So if you are looking to lose weight in hopes of controlling hypertension, then this can be the perfect supplement for you. As you can see, it has many great, healthy uses.

Alternative cure for blood and breast cancer
This remedy has been popular in many hispanic countries and many people have claimed that it works wonderfully. Fray Romano Zago –a Brazilian fray who came up with this nice remedy and has used it for several years to cure people successfully– says that this remedy works for all types of cancer (skin, lungs, blood, breast, ovary, etc.). Some people say that it's very effective, even for cancer in terminal stage.
Look for an Aloe vera plant that is 3 years old or more. Clean 2 big leaves (or 3 small leaves) and remove the serrated margins (what look like thorns).
Cut the Aloe leaves in small pieces and put them in a blender or a mixer. Add half kilogram or 500 mL pure honey and 3 tablespoons of whisky (cognac, tequila or other kind of alcoholic beverage would be good too; this is a vessel dilator).
Mix everything until until you obtain a viscous mass. It is ready. You don't need to strain the remedy (just be careful that there are no sharp leaf margins left). Put it in a jar or container.
Directions For Use: Shake the jar very well. Take a big tablespoon, 3 times per day, 15 minutes before each meal. Do this for 10 days. Have a medical check to see if the tumor has reduced. If you don't achieve the desired results after this number of days, repeat the treatment a second time, or a third, or a fourth time until you get cured.
Side Effects: It might produce skin abscesses (but this is a sign that it is working).
Expected Results: In one week you will start seeing results.
Expected Results Within: 1 week

What can I do about flu
At the first signs of flu take 20-30 drops of elderberry tincture three to four times a day for three days. Elderberry has been used for centuries to fight viruses, and one research study found that people who took it recovered from flu significantly faster than those who did not.
Naturpaths recommend Oscillococcinum, a homeopathic remedy for reducing the severity of flu symptoms. It is available online and in some health food shops. Be sure to use it within 12-48 hours of the first appearance of your symptoms.
You could also try N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a form of the amino acid cysteine. It helps to thin and loosen mucus and reduce flu symptoms. Take one 600mg dose three times a day, and of course my own favorite vitamin c in higher doses.

Brushing your teeth may prevent disease
A new study from the BMJ revealed that people who never or only rarely brush their teeth twice a day are up to 70% more likely to develop heart disease.
Although scientists have long suspected a relationship between gum disease and heart problems, this is the first study to high the dangers of poor oral hygiene.
Experts are unsure of the exact reason for the link, but suggest that it may be a result of inflammation in the mouth and gums, which they believe is connected to the build up of clogged arteries.
However despite the findings, the researchers stressed that the overall risk of heart disease from oral hygiene remains relatively low.
In the survey of more than 11,000 people, just 71% said they brushed their teeth twice a day and only 62% said they visited the dentist every six months.

The best ways to lower blood cholesterol
weight is through the establishment of an exercise regimen. Exercise is an effective way to achieve healthy cholesterol levels. It sets off a series of enzymatic reactions in the body that increase HDL and lower triglycerides. Exercise - especially aerobic exercise done over a sustained period of 20 to 30 minutes or so at least 3 days per week - can raise the level of "good' HDL cholesterol by 5-10%. Another fact that has been known for a while is that exercise can lower levels of blood triglycerides. Therefore regular aerobic exercise, walking, jogging, biking, say 3 times per week for 30 minutes even at only 50% of aerobic maximum will burn up triglycerides while stimulating more HDL.

What new natural cures are there?
Dr. Mamdooh Ghoneum presented his findings Feb. 2 at a special conference on "Cell Death Mechanism," sponsored by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) at the Omni San Diego Hotel in San Diego.
"The central focus of the meeting is cell death regulation and how to mine and exploit it for therapeutic gain," a written evaluation of the AACR special conference states. "This conference includes new complexities of cell death and cell survival, new technologies, and clinical translational aspects necessary for the evolution of new therapeutic strategies."
For more than two decades, Dr. Ghoneum has pursued a theory that cancer cells self destruct when exposed to small quantities of yeast.
In laboratory tests, Dr. Ghoneum exposed cancer cells to yeast and observed as they ingested the yeast -- through a process known as phagocytosis -- and then the cancer cells died. First, he investigated this phenomenon in test tubes (in vitro), introducing yeast to breast, tongue, colon, and skin cancers.
"I have no doubt that I am close to unlocking the mystery as to why cancer cells weaken to the point of destruction after eating common baker's yeast," Dr. Ghoneum said. "The cells just gravitate to the yeast. I call it fatal attraction."
In later experiments, yeast was injected inside the tumors of mice and, again, he observed a decrease in the size of the tumor mass. Then, in his most recent tests, he examined whether yeast could kill cancer cells in mice that had cancer metastasized to the lung. These tests also showed significant clearance of the cancer cells from the lung.
"We observed that when the cancer cells eat the yeast, they die," Dr. Ghoneum said.
The next step, Dr. Ghoneum said, is to conduct clinical trials to determine safety, efficacy of dosage and a method of treatment.
Born in Egypt, Dr. Ghoneum earned his Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo in 1980 and did his postdoctoral studies at UCLA, School of Medicine. Dr. Ghoneum is an internationally recognized immunologist, who is an expert in Cancer Immune Therapy. He holds patents for inventing three biological response modifiers for the treatment of cancer. He has been a researcher and professor at Charles Drew University for twenty-five years, specializing in identifying natural cures for cancer.
Dr. Ghoneum's work has been studied and duplicated by leading scientists worldwide with results published in top medical journals. His findings have been confirmed by similar studies at the U.S. Department of Health and Science, National Institute of Health (NIH).
"There is a possibility that we could find a way to treat not only the local tumor, but the tumor that has spread throughout the body," said Dr. Gus Gill, Chairman Emeritus, Department of Otolaryngology, Charles Drew University. "As a surgeon, I always thought that a better way was to try to get rid of surgery (as a necessity) when dealing with cancer."

Prevention of disease is better than cure.
Seaweed is a superfood and there are more than 2,500 varieties. They are a good source of protein and dietary fibre. They also contain up to 20 times the vitamin and mineral content of vegetables that grow on the land.
Seaweed contains vitamin B12, a lack of this vitamin can cause fatigue, depression, numbness and tingling. Seaweed is also a rich source of alginic acid, which helps the body rid of toxic heavy metals such as lead. In addition it contains compounds that may help to prevent cancer.
Nori, for example, which is a variety of seaweed, is rich in the anti-oxidant beta-carotene which like all anti-oxidants, can neutralize harmful molecules known as free radicals before they cause the DNA damage that may eventually lead to malignant tumours.
Seaweed is very popular in Asia, this may help to explain why cancer rates are just a fraction of what they are here in the UK.
Seaweed is full of salt. If you need to limit your sodium intake, due to high blood pressure, for example. Then soak the leaves first.

New wonder drugs on the way
Cancer vaccine
TWO cervical cancer vaccines are now en route to the UK. Gardasil, which has already been given to Australian girls, is the world's first cancer vaccine and will protect young women from the strains of HPV (human papillomavirus) known to cause cervical cancer.
Cevarix, a similar vaccine, is hot on its heels. HPV is passed on through sex and it's hoped that immunising girls before they become sexually active could reduce the UK death rate from 1,093 to just 262 cases a year.
ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL: Gardasil has just been granted a European licence and cevarix is expected to get its licence early next year. The Government must then decide whether all 12-year-old girls should be routinely vaccinated.
Cancer cream
EVERY year thousands of UK women have surgery to remove pre-cancerous cells from their cervixes. But soon this condition may be treatable with a cream.
Experts at the University of Manchester have found that a drug given orally to HIV patients is effective against certain strains of HPV, the cause of most cervical cancers.
Group leader Dr Ian Hampson explains: "Research has only been done on cells in the lab so far so now we need to start clinical trials on women. However the fact that the drug is already licensed for use for HIV will speed up the process."
ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL: Three to four years.
Inhaled insulin
DIABETICS whose conditions can't be controlled by tablets need injections. But now Exubera, a new form of inhaled insulin, promises a viable alternative to the needle. It's hailed as "one of the biggest steps forward since the discovery of insulin in 1992" by charity Diabetes UK.
Studies show that a fear of or reluctance to use needles makes sufferers delay treatment for an average of four years, leading to complications such as heart disease, kidney failure or blindness.
However, there are fears that drug advisory body Nice (National Institute for health and Clinical Excellence) may only recommend its use for patients who have physical or mental problems. The drug isn't suitable for smokers, anyone with breathing problems or children.
ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL: Technically, it was launched last month but most doctors are waiting for Nice guidance, due in October, before prescribing.
Anti-smoking pill
CHAMPIX works by mimicking the effects of nicotine which eases withdrawal symptoms, and by blocking feelgood effects should you weaken and sneak a fag.
Clinical trials on 2,000 chronic smokers found that Champix helped nearly half quit after 12 weeks compared with just 30 per cent receiving the standard drug Zyban. Side-effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, insomnia and flatulence but that seems a small price for kicking a habit that has a one-in-two chance of killing you.
However, Deborah Arnott, director of anti-smoking charity Ash warns: "It's an exciting breakthrough but not a guaranteed cure-all."
ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL: Could be available on prescription in time for your New Year's resolutions.
Anti-blindness drug
AGE-RELATED blindness affects a quarter of a million people in the UK and the wet form (or AMD, age-related macular degeneration), which affects 10 per cent of sufferers, can cause you to lose your sight in just three months. Lucentis, which was passed by the US drug-approval body in June this year, treats the underlying cause of AMD by inhibiting a protein that leads to this type of sight loss.
ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL: Could be available on the NHS next year.
Pill to stop stammering
THE first pill designed to stop stammering is undergoing clinical trials at the University of California. Pagoclone, which is already used to treat anxiety, is thought to work by boosting a chemical brain messenger that plays a key role in speech function. In trials so far, more than half those treated experienced a significant decrease in stammering. "It's encouraging because it appears to have few of the side-effects such as drowsiness, weight gain, mood swings and uncontrolled movement that have been associated with previous potential drugs," says a British Stammering Association spokesperson.
ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL: Two to three years if further trials go well.

Natural uses of vitamin P
Bioflavonoids enhance the effectiveness of vitamin C and is a potent antioxidant. Together with vitamin C they strengthen the capillaries and help prevent excessive menstrual bleeding. They are also anti-viral and anti-inflammatory, protect from free radicals and inhibit histamine release.
Bioflavonoids have potent anti-carcinogenic activity, which has been shown to inhibit the growth of several types of cancer cells, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer and leukaemia. Onions and garlic are a rich source of quercetin, a bioflavonoid which has been found to be effective in healing wounds, preventing diabetic cataracts, and treating oral herpes.

More unknown remedies that could cure
Jatropha stimulosa is commonly known as bull nettle, and it's seeds can be used as a natural remedy. The latex of Jatropha contains an alkaloid known as "Jetrophine" and although research is being done into use as an alternative bioenergy, medicinal research is looking into it's properties as an anti-cancerous cure.
It is without doubt that this unusual remedy needs more research, however early signs are optermistic about it being a leading cure for cancer and other illness.

Do natural cures work?

5-HTP has been very useful in the treatment of anxiety, but only in the early stages. I have tried other home remedies such a valerian with only limited success, it may be that such remedies as valerian need to be given more time to work, say three months or more, I did not give the remedy that long, so I may try it again in the future.
Garlic supplements in higher doses may be useful in the protection against illness such as viruses, high blood pressure and high levels of bad cholesterol, but again I cannot be sure that garlic is helping.

Uncommon remedy for heart disease and strokes.

Liquidambar, or Sweet gum as it is also known is a diciduous tree found in North America. Tinctures can be extracted from its bark and used as an unusual remedy for natural healing. The fruits contain beturonic acid, a substance that appears to protect the liver from damage by extremely toxic dry-cleaning chemicals such as Carbon tetrachloride.
Traditionally the fruits are used in Taiwan for liver problems and hepatitis.
Liquidambar has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-rheumatic properties and thus promotes healing. In North America it is used to heal wounds and for skin complaints. It is interesting to note that Liquidambar has other medicinal uses, such as in treating strokes, infantile convulsions, coma, heart disease and pruritus. Externally it can be mixed with olive oil for scabies.
You can buy Liquidambar tablets online, although you would be best advised to check with your natural therapist first.

One of the top home natural healer's

One of my favorite natural remedies that is a great benefit to my health, and is used widely in alternative health is the fatty acid Omega-3.
You may think that fat is bad for you but Omega-3 mainly found in salmon, mackerel, and fresh tuna plays a key role in many vital body processes.
I have used Omega-3, in supplement form, for many years in the hope it will lower cholesterol levels, and lower blood pressure. I am sure it has helped my health to some degree. The recommended dose of fish oil supplements is usually 3,000-5,000mg per day.
In natural therapy, Omega-3 is used for the following conditions:
Arthritis, Asthma, Bursitis and tendinitis, Depression, Dry skin, Eczema, Gout, High blood pressure, High cholesterol. Hives, Inflammatory bowel disease, Memory problems, Menstrual problems, Nail problems, Palpitations, Prostate problems, Psoriasis and Wrinkles. There is also some evidence that cancer may also be helped with Omega-3.

Can essential oils help my health?

There are many natural ways that my health could benefit from conditions such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol levels and anxiety. One such way is with the use of essential oils. Aromatherapy is an ancient art which uses aromatic plant essences to create the essential oils that have many natural health benefits.
Aromatic herbs have been used for thousands of years for the healing and treatment of various illness and disease. More recently, with the resurgence of interest in natural health and complementary medicines, aromatherapy has become increasingly popular.
For example, essential oils that can be beneficial in massage for people suffering from high blood pressure could be clary sage, lavender, marjoram, mellisa and ylang ylang.
Raised cholesterol levels may be helped by using cinnamon essential oil.
Anxiety can be helped by blending bergamot, cedarwood, chamomile, frankincense, geranium, mandarin, marjaram, sandalwood and ylang ylang.

Why I take a high dose vitamin B

Following on from my last post about Niacin (vitamin B3 ), and how it helped lower my blood cholesterol and thus helping to improve my health the natural way without the aid of drugs and all its side effects.
I would now use Niacin 100mg all of the time, however I was not able to buy Niacin on its own this time, so I decided to take a good mega dose of vitamin B complex, this is a great natural supplement and has many health benefits and includes Niacin 100mg.
Each tablet, which is time released contains 100mg of Thiamine (vitamin B1). Thiamine promotes a feeling of optimism, helps overcome stress, depression, anxiety and poor memory. It stabilizes appetite and maintains normal heart function. Doctors will sometimes give Thiamine to alcoholics as all Thiamine is flushed out of the body.
Riboflavin (vitamin B2) 100mg is also in the complex, it is vital for metabolism and energy production.
Niacin (vitamin B3) we have already talked about, and apart from helping lower cholesterol it improves blood circulation preventing blood clots and heart attacks.
Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) helps to maintain healthy blood sugar levels and increase energy, particularly in stressful situations.
Vitamin B6 100mg has many uses, it promotes muscle energy by releasing stored sugar from the liver, it controls obesity, lowers cholesterol and prevents atherosclerosis. It also also inhibits the release of histamine and is therefore beneficial to asthmatics, maintains a correct acid-alkaline ratio and assists the function of nerves. In pregnancy it prevents morning sickness. In higher doses of 200mg per day it can be useful in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome and epileptic seizures. Women taking the pill should also consider taking vitamin B6.
Vitamin B12 100mg can be used to treat pernicious anaemia, fatigue, depression, Alzheimer's disease, asthma, multiple sclerosis, hearing loss and AIDS.
Folic acid (see earlier post).
Biotin is useful in the treatment of hair loss, greying, and scalp conditions, it can also alleviate eczema and dermatitis.
Choline is vital for learning and memory, it reduces cholesterol, and maintains a healthy liver, kidneys and nerves.
Inositol produces a calming effect on the body. It also can lower cholesterol, maintains a healthy skin, and lower high oestrogen levels that can lead to breast lumps.
So vitamin B complex, for me is a complete protection for my health.

The effects of Niacin on blood cholesterol

I had taken a cholesterol test and was requested by my doctor to see him as it was a little high at 6.5. This would need to be reduced by correct diet, however I wanted to use other natural ways of reducing my bad cholesterol, and naturally being concerned about my health I researched further into natural therapy.
I found that Niacin (Vitamin B3) taken in larger doses would bring down bad cholesterol and bring up good cholesterol. I found Niacin 100mg was available at my local health food shop, this was 556x the recommended daily dose, but would seem to be safe to take one tablet per day.
My research found that 1-2 grams per day was necessary to reduce bad cholesterol, but I was worried about taking this large amount even though there seemed to be no side effects in taking large doses of Niacin.
I decided to double my dose increasing to 200mg per day. I found, at first that I started to flush about half an hour after taking the second tablet, a burning feeling around my neck and face, however this seemed to be a natural reaction to the Niacin. I continued taking the double dose of Niacin for about three months, and then took another cholesterol test. To my amazement my reading was now down to 5.3, which was much more acceptable. I had not followed any particular diet although perhaps I had tried to avoid fatty food.
So looking at the whole picture it would seem that even lower doses of Niacin, ie 200mg per day may play a part in lowering bad cholesterol.

Other unusual remedies
I found one such herb that I did not know about, Andrograhphis(Acanthaceae), which grows in the plains of India. It is regarded as a holistic cure for many complaints. In India it is used as a household remedy for fever, the juice of the leaves are mixed with Cuminum to make a remedy known as Alui.
In Malaysia where it is known as Hempedu bumi it is regarded as a remedy for cardiovascular disease, skin problems and snake bite.
Internally it has been used to treat malaria, syphilis, liver and digestive problems, and dysentery.
I would be very interested to hear from people who may have used this remedy, or any other unusual remedies.

Useful natural remedy as a heart tonic

Lilly of the valley is a perennial plant found growing wild in Europe and North America. It is antispasmodic and a diuretic, but it is mainly recommended as a heart tonic that can safely strengthen the heart. In larger doses, it can act as a laxative. It is not recommended for use if you are useing Beta-blockers for any heart complaint, as it can cause irregular heartbeat and upset stomach.
Please add your comment and url if you have used Lilly of the valley. I would be interested to hear if it has helped you.

Natural ways blood pressure can be controlled

If the above had not worked then I had intended to start taking the herb Hawthorn, I still may do this but I do not want to mix it with Garlic. Hawthorn is a shrub and its berries contain many active flavonoid compounds. Hawthorn can dilate and relax coronary vessels, reducing blood pressure and improving blood supply to the heart, and therefore beneficial in the prevention and treatment of angina.
It may not be wise for me to take Hawthorn at the moment, because of taking Ramipril and garlic as this may lower my blood pressure by too much, symptoms of this are nausea and feeling faint.

Why is my blood pressure so high?

I read that drinking water may help, as this would flush out some of the sodium from my body so I decided to give it a try. I took my own blood pressure reading and it was 160/99, still far too high. I then drank a glass of water, after ten minutes I took another reading which was 153/93, a little better. I then drank another glass of water. After ten more minutes I took another reading which was 145/89.
The water seems to be helping although it could be that I needed the fluid anyway. I would be interested to hear other comments from people that may have tried using water to reduce their blood pressure. Please follow me if you find this post interesting. Thank you.
